Your TV's home screen is full of ads, sponsored rows and apps you never installed. Claude Code can switch all of it off over Wi-Fi and put in a clean, Apple TV style home screen. Nothing is deleted, and you can undo everything.

What it is

Clean Your TV: an open-source project on GitHub with a ready prompt for Claude Code. Claude connects to your TV over your network, backs up its settings, turns off ads, tracking and preloaded junk, and installs a light home screen. 33K+ stars on GitHub, close to 300 tested TV models.

Steps

  1. Step 1. Turn on developer mode on your TV

Settings → Device Preferences → About → press Build seven times. Then open Developer options and turn on USB debugging. If you see Network or ADB debugging, turn that on too. This is the only manual part.

  2. Step 2. Same Wi-Fi

Put your computer on the same Wi-Fi as the TV. Keep the TV on.

  3. Step 3. Paste the prompt

Open Claude Code and paste the prompt below with your TV model.

  4. Step 4. Allow debugging

When the TV asks "Allow USB debugging?", say yes. Claude will ask which apps you want on the home screen and whether to keep the voice assistant. Just answer in plain English.

Paste into Claude Code

My TV is: [your model]. Use only github.com/Gathin23/cleanyourtv at the checked commit 5ee685b02014fa502ea0951ee1f49abd7ee2e8c1: download exactly that commit into a new folder, not main or any other version. Read the README and PROMPT.md from that folder and follow PROMPT.md: find the TV on my Wi-Fi, back up the app list and settings first, then turn off the ads, tracking and junk apps and install the clean home screen. Work only with the TV and that folder, and leave my other files alone. Before each stage, tell me in plain words what you'll do and which commands you'll run, and wait for my OK. Ask me before you turn off anything I might use. At the end, show me how to undo everything with one command. I'm not a developer: do everything you can yourself, after my OK.

Good to know

You can undo all of it

Apps are disabled, not uninstalled. Claude saves the state first, and one command brings everything back, including the stock home screen.

Themes

You can change colors, columns and the dock, or ask Claude to build your own home screen.

How long it takes

About 15 minutes according to the project, if your TV is already on the tested list.

The honest read

  • Android TV and Google TV only. Samsung (Tizen) and LG (webOS) are different systems and this won't work there.
  • On Fire TV you can remove the ads and junk, but Fire TV won't let you replace the home screen.
  • A few China-market TCL sets refuse any other home screen.
